POS and retail point of sale and retail operations
A retail POS has to bill in seconds, take UPI, cards and cash, and keep working offline. Behind the counter it also needs store-level stock, transfers between outlets, loyalty and a head office view of what sold where.

Build, buy or both
For a single shop or a small chain, products like Ginesys, GoFrugal, Petpooja (for food), Zoho POS or Shopify POS are mature and cheap, and building your own would be hard to justify. Custom makes sense for chains with unusual billing (jewellery with making charges and old gold exchange, pharmacy with batch and schedule drug rules, made-to-measure fashion), for brands that want POS, e-commerce and loyalty to share one customer record, or when per-terminal fees across many stores add up. A hybrid of a standard POS with a custom loyalty or replenishment layer is also common.

Questions
POS and retail: common questions
Does billing work without internet?
Yes. The counter bills offline and syncs to head office when the connection returns. UPI and card payments need a connection, so cash billing is the fallback.
Can it handle GST and e-invoicing?
B2C bills carry the right GST breakup. For B2B sales above the e-invoicing threshold, the POS gets an IRN from the IRP before printing.
Can we use our existing hardware?
Usually. We support common thermal printers, barcode scanners, weighing scales and Android or Windows billing machines.
